tfcVOTE v1.6
- new user voter for RA 2.x -
┌──--────────·─────────────────────--·
│ what's a new user voter?
└-─────────────-─────────·────────--───────--·
A new user voter is a door that protects your BBS from the so called
LAMERS. If you don't know what a lamer is, then you surely don't need
to use this door. ;-)
┌──--──-───────────────·--·────────--·
│ what's new in this version?
└-──────·─────────────────────────--───────--·
New features for version 1.6 of tfcVOTE:
* "Abstain"-voting is now available
* Multinode support
* Logging of actions can now be enabled
* The voters can now see the other's vote-reasons BEFORE they vote
* Multitasker aware (DOS, DESQView, OS/2, Windoz)
┌──--────────·─────────────────────--·
│ how does it work?
└-─────────────-─────────·────────--───────--·
Like this: All new users who logon to your board will have to answer some
tricky questions (how old they are, if they're member in any groups etc.)
After the new user has disconnected, and one of your other users call,
this trusted user can vote whether the new user that called before him
should be let in to the BBS or not.
┌──--────────·─────────────────────--·
│ installation
└-─────────────-─────────·────────--───────--·
Follow these steps to install tfcVOTE!:
1. Make a directory on your harddisk called TFCVOTE (eg. C:\RA\TFCVOTE)
2. Unzip the CRW-TV16.ZIP archive into this directory
3. Run VOTECFG.EXE to configure the voter (more about that later on)
4. Change to your RemoteAccess directory and fire up RACONFIG in
menu-editing mode by entering RACONFIG -M at the command prompt.
5. Edit the menu called TOP(.MNU) and insert a new menuitem type 7
somewhere in it. On the OptData line you should enter something
like this "C:\RA\TFCVOTE\TFCVOTE.EXE /U *M". The "/U" tells tfc-
VOTE! to start up in user registration mode and the "*M" tells
RA to swap out of memory before executing . Now set the "MinSec"
and "MaxSec" to the value given to all your new users. This value
can be found in RACONFIG > Options > New Users > Security.
6. Insert another menuitem 7 in the same menu, with the same OptData
info as above, but with a "/V" instead of the "/U". The "/V" tells
tfcVOTE! to start up in new user voting mode. Set the MinSec field
to something higher than the new user security, so that only your
trusted users can vote.
7. Now log in as a new user locally to test that everything is working
alright. If it works fine, then the installation is complete! =)
NOTE: If you run a multinode system, add a /P<path to dropfile>
paramater to all menu entries so that tfcVOTE! can find node
specific dropfileinfo!
NOTE 2: If you want to enable multitasker support, add a /M parameter!
┌──--────────·─────────────────────--·
│ configuration of tfcVOTE
└-─────────────-─────────·────────--───────--·
When you run VoteCFG to configure you get a list with these options:
"Yes" votes to validate : this is the number of YES votes a new
user has to get to be let in to the BBS
the maxiumum value is 10
"No" votes to lock out : this is the number of NO votes a new user
can get before he/she will be locked out
or lowered. the maxiumum value is 10
Validated user security : security level given to validated users
Unvalidated user security : security level given to unvalidated users
(enter 0 to lock out unvalidated users)
Set delete flag on lock out : when this option is set to YES, users who
doesn't get validated will have the DELETE
flag set in their userlist entry and they
will be deleted next time you pack the it
Force voting on all users : when this option is enabled then the voters
will HAVE TO vote on ALL the new users be-
fore exiting the door with the escape key.
Enable action logging : whether tfcVOTE! should log all
actions made to a logfile (it's called
TFCVOTE.LOG and is created in the same
directory as your RA system log).

tfcVOTE was coded 1996 by fREEJACK of Crow. The ANSi artwork was made
by Sensei.
This new version of the voter is somewhat better than the old one,
but it still isn't as good as I would like it to be. So maybe, there
will be a 2.0 version, MAYBE.. we'll see.
See CROW.NFO for info on contacting us. Seeya!
